Windows of the Soul - Interactive Portrait Artwork
The eyes are known to be the windows of the soul. Through seeing deeply into the eyes of each person I draw, I create an intuitive portrait that reflects a person’s physical, spiritual and intellectual being. I call these psychic drawings Soul Portraits: a visual poem describing the being of the person portrayed.
I have made these portraits for over a thousand people, always in person, usually drawing outdoors. This work evolved from being a portrait artist in a more traditional sense but involves a deeper more immediate process. I have presented this work as process art in an exhibition called "Visual Poetry", in 2009.
The Soul Portrait is an artwork, which is co-created. I begin each drawing with a guided visualization, which enables the sitter to relax and focus awareness internally. After this Grounding Meditation, I draw the portrait. I intuitively receive symbolic images, which I integrate into the actual likeness of the face, describing aspects of the person. The intuitive information comes to me in words, sounds, and physical impressions, which the drawings reflect. Afterwards, I sit with the person and verbally interpret the images, their meanings in context of what I have been able to perceive. I then answer any questions that the person may have. It is a reading of the present moment in the person’s life, their challenges, and potentials. The entire process for each drawing interaction is completed in one sitting.
The nature of each reading is extremely unique, as is each person who walks this earth. Those who experience this work tell me that it helps them to experience a deeper level of self-acceptance and affirmation. Through this process of being truly seen by another, participants are empowered to embrace their own strengths and allow for growth and change to occur as needed more fully.
